The Fringe Vault was once used to store ice, milk and dairy products. These products were shipped from various continents and delivered by “coolies” from the wharf along Wyndham Street to the Depot. The products were sold or distributed to groups who needed them, including foreign residents, local hospitals and fishermen.


You might be wondering why the walls are slanted. This probably made it easier for the workers to remove the stacked-up ice bricks. An elevator lifted the goods up to the ground-floor garage. Now, only a metal plate remains to remind us of this. But where is it? Start searching!
